Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

New name for this region!  Since Impiltur is opening, and I don't foresee us leaving Damara/Vaasa for a while (Although this creates a possibility for cross-over)...

SECOND POST1!!
But what's wrong with Robin Williams?  But it doesn't matter.  If it's on a shirt button, it's got to be true, right?  So we could say,

Dungeons and Dragons:
*insert your favourite pop/movie/sports star* plays it!
So it's cool!

Of course, I was basing Robin Williams from fact; he isn't my favourite actor, or even comedian.

You can choose pretty much anything you want, except I reserve the right to say no, or will change the way the item work slightly.

For example, if you say 'Candle of Invocation', I'll smack you around.

Some things that works 'Once a day', I might change them into 'Once every 4 encounter', or something, depending on which item they are.

If anyone has any problem picking, let me know.  I can probably suggest something.  I have access to Magic Item Compendium.

Re: Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

Talvaroff,

We are in a small town right now.  You can get it immediately.

Thamol,

It's your choice, so you are gonna have to choose at the end.  I'll give you some ideas, but 'something increases arcane casting' is a bit vague.  There is a 500 gp gloves, that increases caster level of level 1 spell 3 times a day.  There aren't many other that directly increases casting that's in the price range (It's much more expensive to even just get +1 caster level).  You can get something increases your charisma, but it won't do much until you get some higher arcane casting ability yourself, since increasing charisma will net you more spells for level 2 spells, and no increase for level 1 spells.  I'll look around, but I don't think there's many things in your price range that directly increases your casting ability.

The gloves sound possible.

Would that mean that if use them on my magic missile they would be class as casting by a 3rd level sorcerer (i.e. 2 missiles)?

I understand that it was bit vague and also that amount I have to play with.

Re: Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

Well, wands and scrolls are all good.  But there are so many possible choices amongst them, Thamol will have to pick which one.

Orange Ioun Stone that adds +1 to caster level costs 30000.  As I said, it's *way* above our budget, Thamol.  The glove is 500, but it only works on level 1 spells, and yes, the glove works on magic missiles, and only works 3 times/day, so you can only apply the glove bonus to 3 of them.

Sophia,
Pick the kind of horse you want?  Heavy horse, light horse, heavy warhorse or light warhorse...this is a fort, you should be able to find those, and horses are fine in this region.  Mongols, in cold climate, used horses.  Probably fine in Vaasa as well.

I don't know exactly how ya'll got that cart/wagon thing in the first place.  It's way back when DM Fido was running this region.  Maybe Thamol or Tarmes can refresh our memory.  You guys (Rather, the group that started chasing Neconlius) got it when they left the first town.

You can probably change it to Ox/Bison/Caribou/etcs if you want.  8gps for donkey/mule, so we'll use that price.

Re: Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

Thamol,

After looking through the Magic Item Compendium throughly, there's nothing that directly increases your arcane (Or any for that matter) casting.  As mentioned, Orange Ioun Stone costs 30000 gps, and really *anything* that directly increases your casting is way above our price range.  The problem here is not that you weren't specific per se (Increase your casting), but anything that increases casting in general is way more expensive than we can afford.

As mentioned, Arcanist's Gloves are 500gps, and bargain, especially since you only have level 1 spells to begin with.

Other options that relates to spellcasting are pretty poor.

Increasing Charisma does very little to you, since it won't give you any extra spells, and all it does is increase the saving throw DC of your spells.  I can't seen you cast any spell that relies on saving throw.

There are a few lesser metamagic rods you could afford.  However, the ones you can't afford don't seem to help you much.  Extend and Sculpt comes to my mind for 'useful' rods, but neither of them look like it does anything to you with the level 1 arcane spells you have.  There are other magic items in Magic Item Compendium that offers effect identical to metamagic rods (Gloves that let you cast spells as 'Still' metamagic applied, ring that can let you cast spells with 'Silent' metamagic applied).  I don't know any of those metamagic effects appeals to you.  I suspect you don't, but who knows...

One possibility is, as Tarmes mentioned, scrolls and wands.  Wands especially might be a good idea for level 2 spells.  You get 50 charges, and you can use them without having to make Caster Level check to use it (As opposed to scrolls with level 2 spells, which you will have to make caster level checks).

There are a few (not many) magic items that helps casters in Magic Item Compendium, but those items don't increase your casting prowess, they do some stuff (Sort of like metamagic).  It'll be too long to list their effect there.  One of them that cought my eye, was bracers.  When you cast a spell that damages (say, magic missle), you halve the damage, but it entangles the target 1d3 rounds on top of the half damage it does.  I thought it was kinda interesting.

So, if you have any other input, let me know.  We'll poke around to see if there's anything else interesting, but guiding me in some specific direction (Other than 'increase arcane casting', which is out of our price range) would help...

OK, so, the issue of purchases that affects everyoen in the party.  In this particular case, the runners for the cart-sleigh.

At some point, you all have to decide how you are going to deal with this.  Either pay as you go (everyone pays portion of it), or have a party treasury, or whatever.

As mentioned in the in-game post, the runners are 10 gps (I made the number up, but cart costs 15, and sled costs 20, so 10 sounded like a good number).  Either, everyone pays 1 gp each, or Mundin pays 10, and he'll take the whole thing with him when he leaves...

Re: Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

Thamol,

I saw the comment about knowstones in OOC forum, and mentioned it's similar to Runestaffs (from MIC).  Now, every runestaff in that book is too expensive (Cheapest is about 8000), but I found that there's a rule to create a custom runestaff.  Maybe you might be interested in that.

The way runestaff works is roughly, follows.

First, you must attune to 1 runestaff.  This is done when you do the '15 minute concentration ritual after 8 hours of rest'.  You can only use that particular runestaff, until you reattune to another runestaff.  When you reattune to another runestaff, your previous attunement with the original runestaff is broken.  Basically, you can only have 1 particular runestaff ready at any moment.

Then, 3 times a day (for each spell) you can cast the spells from runestaff, like you are casting (Using your own charisma bonus for save DC, using your own caster level, etcs) by sacrificing the spell slot for the day, of the same spell level or higher as the spell you are casting.  The spell in question must be in your spell list (Meaning, if it's Bard-only spell, you can't use it as a sorcerer)

For example, let's say you have a 'Runestaff of change size', where the spells contained in the runestaff is Enlarge Person and Reduce Person.  By sacrificing one of your spell slot (level 1 or higher), you can cast the enlarge person.  You can do that 3 times, and you can do the same for Reduce Person, 3 times the day.

The runestaff must contain 2-5 spells, and the cost of the spellstaff is (highest level spell)^2*400 + sum((all other spell levels)^2*200).

So, for example, if the rune staff has 1 level 2 spell, and 2 level 1 spells, it will be 1600 + 200 + 200 = 2000.

Since you can only cast level 1 spells at the moment, level 2 spells are useless, so you might not want to waste money on level 2 spells...

If the runestaff contains less than 5 spells, I'll let you upgrade'em later.  Of course, this assume that I'm the DM here still when you want that to happen.  If I leave, it'll be entirely up to the next DM.

You want Lark should leave the group for a while and come back when things settle down (maybe chase, love struck after Lycaeon, only to return, rejected) or just hang around in the background, posting when I can.

The above pretty well says it all. Of course, Cashel isn't as involved in this game yet, so you could as easily remove him entirely if you prefer.

That's just wrong :P

You can stay in the background for a while.  We've got a few of those already anyways...

Let me know if this persists after the holidays.  But it's not a big deal.

You can still get that RoA Birthday gift thingie...

Re: Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

Talvaroff:
I'm primarily interested in defensive capabilities, actually.  I've got a tremendous strength score, and ample base attack bonus, so I'm alright when I consider my offense.  So I'd be looking for more original methods of protection than a ring of protection, amulet of natural armor, or enhanced shields or armor.

OK, here are a couple of budget ideas.

Least Iron Ward Diamond: This is an Armor Crystal (Least version can be inserted into Masterwork Armor).  It will grant you with Damage Reduction 1/- which stacks with other similar Damage Reduction.  Once it has prevented 10 points of damage, it'll go inert until following day.  500gps

Least Crystal of Life Drinking: This is a Weapon Crystal (Least version, again, can be inserted into Masterwork Weapon).  Each time you deal damage to a living creature with the weapon to which this crystal is attached, you heal 1 point of damage. When the crystal has healed a total of 10 points of damage, it becomes inert until the following day. 400 gps

Amulet of Tears: Amulet (Throat slot).  <b>Swift Action to activate!  Nice!<b>  An amulet of tears has 3 charges, which are renewed each day at dawn. Spending 1 or more charges when you activate the amulet grants you temporary hit points, as described below. These hit points last for up to 10 minutes; they don't stack with any other temporary hit points.
1 charge: 12 temporary hit points.
2 charges: 18 temporary hit points.
3 charges: 24 temporary hit points.

2300gps

Healing Belt: Belt (Waist slot).  Standard Action to Activate.  While wearing a healing belt, you gain a +2 competence bonus on Heal checks. This is a continuous effect and requires no activation.
In addition, the belt has 3 charges, which are renewed each day at dawn. Spending 1 or more charges allows you to channel positive energy and heal damage with a touch. (You can also use this ability to harm undead, dealing them an equivalent amount of damage instead.)
1 charge: Heals 2d8 points of damage.
2 charges: Heals 3d8 points of damage.
3 charges: Heals 4d8 points of damage.

750gps

<u>Torc of Displacement: Torc (Throat Slot).  Immediate Action to Activate (Nice...).
A torc of displacement allows you to temporarily shift your image slightly away from your current location. A torc has 3 charges, which are renewed each day at dawn. Spending 1 or more charges grants you concealment for 1 round. The effectiveness of this concealment (the miss chance provided) varies depending on the number of charges spent.
1 charge: 20% miss chance.
2 charges: 30% miss chance.
3 charges: 40% miss chance.

2000 gps

There are probably more, but those are possibilities...

I happened to thumb through the Magic Item Compendium today, and though I didn't buy it (I wanted to wait until I got my paycheck before I decide how to fritter my money) an item did catch my eye, but now I've forgotten its statistics.  It was a pair of gauntlets called the Gloves of...  Sommat Combative, and it increased your critical hit damage.  If you could tell me what it was and what it cost again (it was in the range of the birthday gift, that's all I remember), I think I would like that for my special item, and maybe one or two potions to fill up the rest.

Devastation Gauntlets?

Swift Action to activate

Devastation gauntlets are prized by anyone who earns gold by fighting in melee, from raging barbarians to wily swashbucklers. These gauntlets have 3 charges, which are renewed each day at dawn. Spending 1 or more charges grants you a bonus to the damage dealt by a critical hit you make in melee. You activate the gauntlets after you have confirmed a critical hit, but before damage is rolled.
1 charge: +2d6 points of damage.
2 charges: +3d6 points of damage.
3 charges: +4d6 points of damage.

2000gps.

This one?  You still got 1000 left...

Hi all:-

I want to run a game but the idea I have / rules does not fit into RoA
(I will be limiting a lot of stuff and want start at 1st).
My first attempt at doing so was failure on my part.

However.
1) I would like to open it up first to people in RoA as know I got good chance getting good player and people that stay around.

2) If it runs well i may pick up GM an area here.

Talvaroff,

1. You need touch attack to initiate the grapple.

2. No AoO, since the ear guy is unarmed, and thus do not threaten.  Same goes for you (When the ear guy moved away, no AoO was generated because no one was armed.)

Rebuilding the Village could be fun and different.
Thamol would have all sort of funny thing to do and effect with his spells and nature.  It would be even better if 2 level higher.

Maybe clear exp for clear objective would make more playable.

I am happy to go with the Goblin Hunting (good exp I think).  Please no laughing gnome I in to many like adventures else where for it to be fun.

I've got nothing against going against some goblins, so long as they've done something wrong.  Tyr's followers believe in punishing the guilty, not the potentially-guilty-but-haven't-really-done-anything-that-bad-yet.

Just so you guys have an idea...

A. I'd like you all to roleplay as you see fit, and would like to roleplay.  I don't consider this 'Mature' rating game, and I might try to curb some immature behavior, but you are free to play in the way you enjoy.

B. I tend to run very 'grey' campaigns.  There won't be many clear 'good guys vs. bad guys'.  Only concequences due to all of your actions (mostly it will be represented in the way NPCs treat you).

I appreciate the way that last NPC counter unfolded, actually.  I was a bit surprised you actually attacked him, Tavaroff, and if there were some Gate Guards around, you'd probably have been arrested and thrown into jail for assaulting.  Legally, the ear-dude was doing nothing wrong.  But you assaulted him after Sophia threatened to rob him.  In most legal society, that counts as unlawful action...Most of Vaasa is everyone-for-themselves-wilderness-frontier land, but you did happen to be nearby the City.

Having said that morally speaking exterminating of all goblins from Vaasa is considered objectionable, and so is hunting down and killing goblins just for profit and no reason asked.

Although, in this instance with the new adventure, you will be given a clear reason as to why you are hunting down these particular goblin tribe.  But note, you will be asked to compete (There'll be competitors) and you also will be asked to completely wipe/drive out the goblins.

Since it's Christmas, I'll just spill the beans...

Upon completion of the conversation with the Major, you will be given a task (What you all voted from ARPs).  She will provide you with 5000gps worth of equipment per person.

So start thinking of 5000gps worth of magic/mundane gear.

Note that the gear you will receive will have Damaran/Bloodstone Pass signatures all over them, and you will be noted to be allied with them.  As such, NPCs will have certain reaction to them...(Meaning, there's a small catch)  If you don't want the gear, just let me know (Or RP in game...)

Oh, this group is doing completely fine.  Nothing you guys have done so far is anywhere close to the boundary.

There apparently was some sort of friction in this game (Cold Lands, that is) long time ago, back when Fido was the DM, and even before that, when Fido was a player.  But that was loooong time ago.

Also, since this game is not rated 'Mature' or 'Adult', anything that will end up tagging that label should be sort of avoided.  Again, nothing of that sort has happened here, and I don't expect it will be.  But I'm just warning.  If anyone wants to know what those are, check the FAQs and search for Mature and Adult ratings.

Penville,

No problem.  Computers are cheap (relatively speaking) thesedays.  Remember to pick something that has PCI-e port, and using DDR2 RAM.  Spend extra $150 on cheap and decent Video card and 2Gig of Ram, and Boom, you can pretty much play any game at satisfactory level.

I suppose you don't quite have to worry about doing it 'Budget' like I do *laugh*, with your new job and all.

Ahh to have read that before...

Well it bought and it works! And it preeeety.
True £520 ($900) isn't what I'd call cheap but it should last a while and has loadsa space and memory so will hopefully be fine for games (if I ever have a chance to play them now I'm back on RPOL!)

My new job helped, as it allowed me to go for a computer to start with, rather than the cheapest possible. So I have something that looks darn impressive.

I'm going to assume that Tarmes is telling Grassreaver everything of importance, so Talvaroff is just listening politely.
Anyway, I got the Spell Compendium as well, and I was looking through it when I found a spell that just made me laugh and laugh; Silverbeard.  Basically, it makes your beard magical and protective, and makes you grow a beard if you don't have one.  Just the stupidest spell I ever read about.  There was also a silly magic item in the MIC, but I've completely forgotten what it was.
My desktop recently crashed, or at least quit working, which is the same thing.  Just when I got Shivering Isles for Oblivion, and was enjoying myself immensely.  Now we must get a new hard drive for it, which is a big pain considering our... mobile situation.

Hi guys. Please forgive me for being silent lately. My computer issues have gotten worse, not better. I've been getting to RPOL at work and we're really not supposed to do that. I don't know if our REALLY slow wireless issues have anything to do with people in the office doing too much on the internet or not but they're bringing in IT people to check out the network. I think they could go back and see what people are using the internet for which means I can't be on RPOL at work anymore.

I'll try to find a way to connect after work but I'll be here really seldom until I do. I'm really sorry about this.

I'll probably get everything ready for the game by tomorrow; an introductory post, the in-game thread itself, and some changes to be made to the adventure itself.
This is the full tally of people who want to play, as I remember:
Zar'da,
Tarmes,
Thamol
Penville
Sophia
Talvaroff

Cashel is also active, but he hasn't posted here yet for his view on things.

Re: Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

Ah.  THOSE comics.  Them I've read.  :)  Although, strictly speaking, Girl Genius isn't about D&D...  Still awesome though.
Anyway, I've devoted nearly twelve hours of noncontinuous thought as to how to begin, and, while it would be more polite to DM Kremti to have the adventure take place before the meeting with Grassreaver, it would make it easier for all around if I use his NPC as the plothook, and if Kremti returns before I'm done, to have him take up where he left off when you return to Grassreaver to report.  So, that's the plan.  I'll get an opening post within the hour.

Re: Renamed!  Bloodstone Lands: OOC

I’m sorry for my sudden and unexplained absence.  I was recently banned from RPoL.

I had been playing in an adult game on RPOL a month or two ago. The game went in a direction that violates RPOL’s policies. I requested that the GM of that game remove me from it. I took it off my sticky list and then I never went back to it again. Then, about 2 weeks ago or so, the RPOL admins sent a private message to everyone in that game. They stated the game violated RPOL policies and the players in the game needed to explain themselves. I saw that game pop up on my sticky list saying that I had a private message, but since I had requested to be removed from the game I ignored the PM and never went to read it. After a week with no response the RPOL admins thought I was ignoring them and suspended my account. I have not been able to post in any game since then.

I wrote an explanation to the admins and pointed out that I had requested to be removed from the game. They accepted my explanation and re-enabled my RPOL account today. So finally I’m reading what I’ve missed and trying to catch up. I’ll do my best to put in a post later night; 6 or 7 hours from now.

Just to say with the make up of the group as it is Thamol is really the main spell caster.  He only has 1st level spells but he can cast them until the cows come home.

i.e - over 12 first level spells a day which is mix of attack and cure.

So for them moment he going keep away form combat and use spells.
I also use ruff as protection so can cast without problems.
It does mean if take a lot damage Thamol can come up and heal you.

That comes to 186 XP, putting Thamol at 9999 XP. :p

Nah, let's make it a round 300 XP for everything. :)
