We have not officially begun because we are still in the character building phase, but a prologue to the story is already up.

As is so often the case in Traveller, what the character has planned for himself at 18 and the path he wound up taking turned out to be rather different.

(not unlike real life)

I can't complain.  Got a good, well-rounded character that can serve in any number of multiple capacities aboard a starship.  Not that great in a fight, to be honest, but I'm certain that others can fill that role.

How the "Ally" Benefit works:

If you have "ally" as a benefit you need not decide on the details immediately.  Nor is it random.  It is of little help to the game if your character's ally is 20 star systems away and has nothing to offer.

Instead, consider it more of a Plot Card you can play at some future time.

An Ally can be:

An expert who happens to know about something you have questions about.
A mechanic who is really great at fixing the whatever.
A lawyer who can get you out of trouble. (My Cousin Vinnie In Space??)
A colonist who can give you a place to hide and rest.
A bureaucrat who makes your application for something go smoothly.
A broker who can get you a good deal on something.
A law enforcement officer who can give you tips about the underworld.
A gangster who can give you tips about law enforcement.

Etc etc etc.  They do not become employees, party members, etc.  (although, a fair use of an Ally is Someone Who Knows About Recruiting Talent)

We're almost there, although one player has not checked in since joining.  Always one of those.  I am going to give this another pass through the players wanted board, and then we will go with what we have, because it's just enough.  All the characters are basically space veterans, although with some differences.

Noah: the tough stained overalls mechanical type.
Alwin:  the doctor and computer guy.
Horace:  The deal making corporate whiz

Einar... in process.

Re: OOC Thread:  Because there will always be one.

Between a few characters, there has been enough luck in Equity and Ship shares to justify starting with a ship with a reasonably manageable debt!

If this sounds good, the opening scene will take us to the Lyonesse Pre-owned Spacecraft Yard, to look over the offerings available.  We can assume the four characters we currently have already met, understood that the current crisis and slowdown in demand means getting hired by a ship is tough, and so might have decided they have enough resources between themselves to go into the frontier transport business on their own.

I'd say we need a few more players maybe. Ships are a bit salty, Light Years a Cepheas Engine thing? I know Jump a bit better. I'll learn. I have 8M Credits but am loathe to use it all. Never had money in a Traveller game before, nice change.

Cepheus Engine has rules for several different alternative ship drive ideas.

I like cruising around rather than a simple one week jump.  Better feel, just my opinion.

You will find that you will cover a little more space here faster but since the Points Of Interest tend to be further apart the game effect is similar.

That's one thing that always bugged me a bit with Traveller.  "The Imperium is huuugee... but you have a Jump-1 ship so will die of old age before you cover 1% of it."

My supposition is that in the far future, there will be criminal syndicates comprised of hipster-belters.  Noah's the kind of guy who uses small batch, hand-crafted clubs to break knee caps; he rejects mass marketed nightsticks.  He can also make series of great Victorian-era cocktails and has large collection of ironic t-shirts of various companies who are no longer in business.

Re: OOC Thread:  Because there will always be one.

I think we can start off with the "First Four" and add others as we go along.  There is still work to do, and sometimes it's better with a small group paving the way.

We should assume the four characters we have now have recently concluded that a joint enterprise of some kind is better than trying to sign on with another ship.  Of course, with the characters varying a little (a lot) in wealth and assets it will probably not be an evenly split business.

Characters with a Traveller's Aid Society benefit (or as Cepheus puts it to stay Generic, Explorer's Society) don't have to waste the Free High Passage perk if they are owners or crew on a starship.  All you have to do is take on a Society passenger using his/her own Society "free ticket", the Society will pay 1 1/2 tickets, everybody comes out ahead!

Well, I've also got three high passage booklets I can try to cash in, and a bit of cash, although the latter isn't enough to factor into getting a ship.

That reminds me, I still need to buy equipment.  What would be the TL and Law Level limits for purchase, Boss?

Re: OOC Thread:  Because there will always be one.

I have 8MCr toward a down payment for a ship. We need to pool our money and pick a ship.

)  Frontier Trader.  A retired military vessel converted to civilian use, with 25 staterooms and 19 containers of cargo.  Not designed to land, this ship includes one lander that can be converted between passenger or cargo use.  (2 containers, or 40 passengers, or 1 container and 20 passengers).  Generally, the ship will be loaded and unloaded in space using locally based shuttlecraft.  Speed is 5, a holdover from its military days.  Asking price is 65.6 Million.

2) Small Liner.  Typically serves low population frontier worlds, or connects minor settlements to larger populations. 40 staterooms and 10 containers of cargo.   A ship like this cannot compete with the larger liners between major planets. Not designed to land, this ship includes one lander that can be converted between passenger or cargo use.  (2 containers, or 40 passengers, or 1 container and 20 passengers).  Generally, the ship will be loaded and unloaded in space using locally based shuttlecraft.  Speed is 5.1, good but will never keep up with the hot new ships serving the central planets.  Asking price is 56 Million.

3)  The VIP transport.   Another veteran of government service, this ship was used to move high ranking officers and officials when other transportation was not available.  16 staterooms and 2 containers of cargo.   This is a ship that can easily be adapted as a charter ship for very wealthy clients, although for attracting and then keeping those customers, a good steward is suggested.  It is streamlined and can land on planet surfaces.  Speed is 5.5.  Asking price is 40.8 Million.

4)  The Ro-Ro Ferry.   “Roll on, Roll off” ships are designed to move vehicles especially, although they can certainly take on standard cargo.  It is streamlined and can land on planet surfaces, but needs an exceptionally large and well prepared landing area.  8 staterooms and 32 containers of cargo.   The cargo is in one very large bay with ramps on both ends of the ship.  Foldout metal grid floors can be set at different heights to allow vehicles of various sizes to be stacked efficiently.  Speed is 4  Asking price is 43.2 Million.

5)  The Amphibian.   Another ex-military ship.  Cheaper and more versatile than the Ro-Ro, as all it needs to set down is a stretch of water.  It is streamlined and can land on planet surfaces, but can only land in water- fortunately, most settled worlds have some.    12 staterooms and 12 containers of cargo.  The cargo is one large bay with rear doors, the ship is often backed up to a dock and functions as a Ro-Ro.  Or, the cargo bay can be flooded to allow specialized cargoes to be floated off- this is one of the rare ships that can move boats directly to a planet surface.  Because these starships need hulls that are strong enough to survive water landings and takeoffs, the "Belly Floppers" have a reputation as tough ships.    Speed is 5.   Asking price is 38.4 Million.

6)  The Split Ship.   A low cost ship built with no artificial gravity- it uses a “Spin Habitat” that is left in orbit with the main powerplant and FTL drive, while the streamlined lander/bridge portion of the ship detaches and lands.  This avoids a lot of cost, though many spacers do not like leaving their “home” and their FTL drive in orbit without them. The lander has a very small "surface quarters" section that provides cramped crew support when the lander is down and the ship's staterooms are in orbit.  16 staterooms and 4 containers of cargo.  The cargo remains in the lander section, although it can be offloaded in space.   Speed is 4.6.  Some call it a "Shuttle Plus" configuration.   Asking price is 25.6 Million.

The amphibian?

That's a Crusader Industries A2 Hercules from the game Star Citizen, but the description, streamlined, fan shaped tail end, engines embedded in the wings, and the large central rear cargo hold reminded me of it.

I imagine the Montauk would have a more pronounced central prow for splashing down, and maybe higher engine intakes, but I thought it might be a good start.

After two years abroad, I have a long trip planned tomorrow (and when I say long, I mean 15+h in a plane, followed by 4 hours in a train) so while I might be able to say a few things here and there, I probably won't post anything of substance before the week-end. Or maybe Friday if I'm not too out of it, we'll see.

Horace has Broker at 3.  Mathematically, his average roll would be pretty close to the discount an ally would provide.

Speaking of which, I have an ally I could call in to try to negotiate better loan terms.

Finally, as noted elsewhere, I have three points of equity, i.e. 3 MCr to contribute to making the down payment on the ship.

Edit: okay, rechecking the math and I misread the way the Broker roll would go, and on average using an ally is more likely to get a larger discount, mea culpa.

We shall assume that the later characters met with the group the same way the 1st group met up:  the news of the death of Rose Batek caused some companies to temporarily freeze their plans as they evaluated the event.  Shipping schedules were disrupted, voyages cancelled, and travelers at Lyonesse met up and pondered their options.

The Boss:
If an ally is NOT being used for a ship discount, then ONE character can attempt to negotiate a better price.  This is a job for a Broker skill.  The discount will depend on the total Skill Roll.

I think that was it Horace.

We had the option of an Ally or one character using the Broker skill, at least to my understanding.

To be fair you had a great chance, just the luck of the dice.

So I figure that now might be a good time for us to start hashing out who will be filling in at what positions of the ship's crew.  While some of that will be negotiated in-character, a straightforward OOC discussion of our relevant skills will probably make things go faster.

(Many of you already know this stuff, this is for the benefit of those new to Traveller/Cepheus Engine)

In the classic Traveller schema, there are six skills that are of primary use for a small vessel like the one we'll be getting:

Pilot - self-explanatory, I hope.
Navigator - plots the course through jump space.  You can buy pre-calculated jump plots for most worlds at various starports, but they're not cheap, and eventually you'll need to jump to (or from) somewhere off the main travel lines.
Engineer - helps keep the ship's drives running smoothly.
Medic - also self-explanatory.
Gunner - handles the ship's boomsticks.  Can be more than one crewman in this position, if there's more than one operational gunner turret.
Steward - helps makes the journey more bearable for passengers and crew, and in some versions of Traveller, is pretty much required to get any passengers paying for High Passage (which is nicely lucrative when you can get them).

There's also several other skills that can help justify a position/title aboard a ship:

Combat skills (various) - ship security.
Broker - help to find a potential seller for cargo to be purchased, and to help negotiate a better price (both buying and selling).
Computers - find online cargo suppliers on medium to high tech worlds, general computer maintenance and security.
Electronics - general repairs around the ship.
Streetwise - finding illegal cargo.

There are probably some skills I'm forgetting that could also fall into this position.  Also, other versions of Traveller (which all pretty much blur together in my head) have sometimes had other uses for some skills, which may or may not apply to this game.  For example, older versions of Traveller allowed you to using Computer skill to upgrade the various ship's programs, and in some versions Carousing could be used to increase the number of Middle Passengers you can get.

So far, I've avoided (both in the play threads and in my character description) actual game terms, but here I'll list all of my relevant skills of level-1 or higher:

Computer-3
Medicine-2
Piloting-2
Engineering-1
Steward-1

Also, Horace has listed his skills in his character bio, which include:

Computer-3
Broker-3
Medic-2
Steward-1

I don't think anyone else has stated they have the Broker skill, so I think Horace gets that position.  Of course, they'll be a fair amount of overlap as many of us have similar skillsets -and it's nice to have backup 'cause we all gotta sleep sometime - but it's good to have a primary role for each character, in my experience.

Reginald has indicated that Security would fall into his domain.  Einar seems to be our guy for zero-g/vacc suit operations.

These are two skills I have that are relevant:

Electronics 2
Computer 2

So basically, I'm good for general repairs, but not a whole lot else.

I also have "life science" at level 2, but that sounds like it would be very situational.

I guess that brings me to my next question (for the players) - do we have people with gunnery?  Noah as Gunnery-0, which would hopefully get a +1 DM from his Dex 9 characteristic.

There's also Fire Control software which can act as a gunner or provide a +1 DM to a real gunner, which might help, but it looks like that might be expensive (unless there is some ex military surplus to be had).

Re: Sign Here

With Reginald's background, getting appropriate licenses is not hard. He can buy any weapons listed in Cepheus Engine's  "Common Personal Ranged Weapons" up through TL 10.

What he can have on him in public varies from place to place, but even in strict areas, licensed security specialists can get away with wearing a small sidearm.  Specific locations might have issues, for example, government offices.  Lyonesse tends to have few restrictions- as the local emphasis is on land ownership it is left to individual landowners to decide what they will allow.  Still, openly carrying large firearms attracts attention and makes people suspicious.

Reginald can also look up conditions on St. Brendan:  there, keep it small and concealed.  They don't want openly armed people in public.  And never on Church property, which, on St. Brendan, is a lot of property.

Keep in mind also, while low tech weapons might be legal, lugging an old fashioned hunting bow around will get a lot of funny looks.

I have a problem with the fact that I had something planned that bothered no one, was no trouble for the ship, that allowed me to be a young and inexperienced character while still having interesting stuff to do and play. Things that you stomped on with no regard for my enjoyment of the game, for no reason at all.

Florence was always going to do her job on the ship, that "young woman with no experience nor money stuff", and do the crap and non-interesting work. Does that mean I can't look for stuff I can enjoy on top of it?

Re: Sign Here

I would respectfully disagree. This is an element to the kind of stories I was hoping to see with this game, a crew coming together with disparate experiences and personalities, then living and working together as they try to make it through a universe that is seeing elements of political upheaval, social instability, etc.

I think it's a good hook, young inexperienced girl from a priveledged background tries to start a business, crusty older spacer Captain shoots down the idea.

Does she secretly do it anyway? Does she learn a little something about discipline and heirarachy aboard a ship? Does she work to turn the crew members to her way of thinking? Does she eventually prove herself in other ways and changes his mind down the line? There are many story options here. Things that could make for good material going forward.

Quitting is not what I would recommend from an OOC perspective. A little "good" IC drama can be great for a story, it's material we can work with instead of just "leaving the table" so to speak.

Re: Sign Here

We're in a PbP. I'm not interested in playing two years doing nothing but what she's told before Florence can finally do something a bit interesting.

Doing it secretly is a non-sense given the circumstances, and changing the crew's mind? Horace would have needed to support the idea instead of directly folding for her to have a chance at it.

As for making Einar change his mind? He can't even brush his teeth when she asks him, what do you think Florence will think of her chances to change his mind on more complicated things than that? Einar would first have to give the impression that it's possible to talk to him in the first place, and not a despot.

And I'd add that if you wanted to mess with Florence, make her feel how inexperienced, money-less, etc. she is, there are plenty of other things to do to her that wouldn't stamp on my own enjoyment of the game and crush my ideas without a thought. Things that she would have done, grudgingly, but that would have been every bit as good as anything else to get you the things you wanted.

Re: Sign Here

Well, it's up to you of course.

If starting up this particular side business is so essential to her concept that you feel she would be unplayable otherwise, I'd hope that we could get there somewhere down the line.

But, at least in my opinion, a Space Opera needs a Captain. And I don't see Einar, or most Captains, just letting people have free reign for these sorts of things. It was partially an effort to have players interact more, not to just have her off to the side doing her own thing.

Maybe alluding to the whole apprenticeship with Wynp, etc, that could build into something more.

They are individually good characters I think, and their interactions can be more than just atagonism with a little effort. Even if yes, it might take awhile, due to the medium of play by post.

That just comes with the territory.

Re: Sign Here

Einar auto-proclaimed himself Captain, with no formal vote. Even if the vote would have gone his way (which it probably would have considering Horace), he is the captain of a trading ship, for which he doesn't even have the absolute majority of the shares. We're a far cry from a military ship where the captain is god. There's a reason I do not play in those games.

Einar is a Captain, sure. Does that give him the right to crush Florence's ideas? Maybe. If you forget the players, and that we're here to have fun. Her ideas would have put the ship in danger? Then sure. It would have gone against the fun of the other players? Again, sure, though it probably would be more the GM's role. But in this case, it's neither, and you effectively decided how I'm supposed to have fun. And in this instance, pretty much none.

The apprenticeship is all well and good, but it's basically "go with Horace and watch him, don't talk". That would have been super interesting. And don't tell me I would have been able to negotiate anything by myself, it would be a stupid idea for everyone involved, starting with Florence. Let me be clear: I wouldn't have minded having to listen and follow. It would have been part of the job. Hell, Florence was counting on it to learn more, to be able to apply it on her own later. But by itself it's boring as fuck.

As for interacting more… Do I give the impression that I have trouble interacting and talking with the other characters? Did you see it devolving into me not caring about the ship and only doing my thing on my side? If Einar had established some ground rules, it would have been perfectly fine. Hell, Florence proposed some already. But that's not what he did.

Einar says "prove yourself at Deseret and St. Brendan and we'll see", then ok. It's reasonable. It wouldn't happen anytime soon considering how slow things go in PbB, Florence would have grumbled, I wouldn't have been pleased either, but it would have been understandable. With a "no", we're a far cry away from things taking time however don't you think?

And to come back to that all "no experience" and all that, did you see me complain about it? On the contrary, Florence has done everything asked of her (even when it meant squeezing herself into dark and hard to reach places, which, believe me, is far from anything she's used to) and she suggested a bunch of stuff. Then, far from complaining about the absence of responsibilities, she found something for her to do, that would neither hinder, harm nor impact anyone on the ship. She even suggested some rules she'd have to abide to. And at no point did she say she would do this instead of whatever task she has to do for the ship. It didn't even cross her mind, she always planned to do it in her free time.

I have used the Standard Shipping Container from current day sea and rail shipping,to 40' version.  This is mostly to make things easy to visualize, one container is one large truck or typical railroad car.  The Albatross can carry 12.  This is tiny compared to real ocean going ships, but then, the Albatross can fly through space.

Prospective passengers contact her, she explains a few things then transmits if it's ok. Or at least that was the idea.

At this point, she's the only one who knows the alien is interested. Why would there be a duplicate message?

Yes. Effective when the ship comes back from St. Brendan.

If you want to set things up, either you mention it before, or you don't assume that no one else has ongoing plans / ideas.

Re: Sign Here

Im really not trying to cause any conflict here. It was my belief, that the GM's post was written in such a way as to help move the story along. It's general knowledge that we can all act on, because we are all on the same team.

I'm not seeing the value of you trying to be the gatekeeper of that info. It just kind of slows us down. It was mentioned, earlier in the scene, that we (the crew) were hoping to potentially pick up passengers.

On a side note, are you (as a player) are actually planning on leaving the game at that point?

Or is this an in character thing that you are working towards story wise?

Re: Sign Here

And maybe, MAYBE, I want to have Florence do something else than sit and watch, and that the opportunity to have ONE conversation for myself isn't too much to ask considering that all the other characters have stuff to do? And that the "meeting" will be Einar speaking and taking all the decisions with nothing left to say or do, which doesn't seem particularly appealing? Plus there's probably only Dominique for now, the three others are in group 2.

I'm not seeing a team.

Picking passengers was Florence's idea, it was her responsibility, and it was her who sent the message. Is it so surprising that I want her to continue dealing with it for a while?

We'll see. At the moment I'm definitely not happy with how some things are going, that's for sure. I'm hoping it'll improve without believing it will. So, we'll see.

So now you want to ask the others?

You impose something to me that will have long lasting consequences, it's not open to debate. I decide something for me that will barely have an impact (it merely delays meeting one NPC after all) and you want everyone to speak about it?

...

And that's without saying that no one should be dragged in the middle of this.

Easy there. This is a game. A friendly game, with a bunch of like minded strangers about space ships and aliens.

I'm just throwing out a general invitation to chime in from the other players at the "table".

And I didn't "impose" anything on you and there are no "lasting consequences". Those are characters, playing roles. Relax.

Re: Sign Here

Of course you did impose something. You crushed an idea I had to help develop Florence without hindering in any way the rest of the crew, an idea I was counting ond for quite a few things. You did so in such a way that the door is not only shut, it's welded shut. And you did so with reasons I find questionable.

You then refused to even acknowledge that I found that distasteful to say the least, without even wanting to discuss ways to overcome the problem effectively forgetting that while your character is the captain, we, as players, are equals. My ideas are no less worthy than yours and MERIT respect.

Now the table are turned, in a much less dramatic way, and you suddenly find that unbearable?

And then, you tell me it's a game? Isn't the goal of a game to have fun? Isn't it good manners to allow other players to have fun too and let them do something?
Why don't you tell me what it'll add to have the alien meet everyone at the same time, compared to Florence meeting and talking to him before the others do?
Because what it removes, I can tell you: once again, Florence would have nothing to do but sit and shut up.

Reginald:
If Florence has no skills to speak of, how did she get on the crew roster? Or does she have a skill(s) that Reggie would not have knowledge of?

She doesn't have no skill. She has a few, just far from the level of people with 20+ years of experience. That doesn't mean she can't do anything. I'm not asking for her to do anything in place of one of you. I'm not saying she should pilot the ship, or take care of the passengers once on-board, deal with the ship's cargo or anything. Im not saying she should do something important.
But having a simple conversation doesn't need skills. And the idea I had and that was shot down would have allowed me to have something to do, to develop skills that would eventually be useful, while promoting a lot of interactions (she'd have stumbled on quite a few problems, and would have needed to ask for tips / help from pretty much every member of the crew).
She'd have been something more than just a spectator.
That's also why I suggested taking care or purchasing some kind of uniforms for the crew: it's useful, it doesn't need skills. At least at the beginning, for the negotiation, etc. She'd probably have asked Horace.
Little things that are useful, don't need skills at the beginning, but still allow me to do something. But if even those are shot down, what am I supposed to do?
And there are of course things about her that no one is aware of, yet.

Horace Wymp:
Her father served on the ship, she asked as a favor if she could serve, we were willing to hire her and teach her, she had other ideas.

It was the grandfather.
And she never refused to be taught anything. I was perfectly fine (and so is she), to learn besides Horace among others, to follow him, observe, etc. I'm pretty sure I never said otherwise, and if I let anyone believe that it was a mistake.
What I wanted was to be able, as a player, to do more than just have Florence eternally passive. Hence that idea to develop a side trade: she'd have been active with her thing, it wouldn't have been a detriment to the ship, and would have allowed me to do something while she interacted with lots of people, on the crew or not. But the idea was never to replace the learning from the crew with this. It was to apply those lessons and come back with even more questions / problems.

Re: Sign Here

One of the quirks of on line text gaming is that we are missing a large chunk of communication- all of the non verbal cues, and lots of the conversation.  It's very, very easy to "take things the wrong way" when we don't have that.

A lot of things interpreted as malice are never intended that way.

Let us, for the moment, breathe. Relax.  Breath.  Slow.  Think about what we do and how it can be seen and interpreted by those who are not in our heads.  And figure out how to make progress.

Re: Sign Here

If you're just posting what you *say*, and not adding any non-verbal cues - because we all project cues in real life - some of the subtext will be missed or misinterpreted, simple as that. It might not be easy to think about, but whenever I'm posting in character, I usually put myself in the character's shoes and try to think about what they are trying to say, in order to give over a more complete picture to the other person. (It doesn't work out that way all the time, but that's partly my fault as well as the receiver - it takes two to tango, after all)

Simply put, I've been staying away from posting in here to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. What's been going on has come down to the interpretations of two people, but it's catching fire and bringing in other voices and threatening to short-circuit the narrative, at least from what I can see. I was looking to post somewhere before this all started, but admittedly, I'm loathe to start anything until things have calmed slightly. (Yes, I did have an opening post worked on in my scratchpad, but deleted it until everything has settle a little more)

I can work on a couple of other things while we let cooler heads prevail and the discussion is settled - still have equipment to purchase and a few last moment things, so I'm good here. :)

Peace.

Sounds good to me.

How about this? Would it help at all for Florence to have her own private conversation with this new Alien NPC, while the rest of us handle any other PC arrivals?

Florence can be still be involved in the latter, we could just stagger the in game times to allow her to do both.

I'm assuming that I'll be taking over the 'room formerly occupied by Susan? If so, it might give me some RP opportunity while sorting her things out and replacing them with my own (I'm not sure if Susan cleared out or no, but I'm good either way) If not, I'll make do with what's there.

Not sure if I'll have crew or passenger quarters, was just wondering at this point.

Re: 2nd party

That's probably because for the most part, skills aren't locked to characteristics. For example Broker could be used with Intelligence if you do that remotely, Social Standing if you're talking to people, etc.

Of course, there are some close matches like Archery and Dexterity for example, but you could very well imagine having to use Strength or Intelligence.

The best you can do is probably to look for the most common characteristic for a skill and write it down, keeping in mind that it's not a guarantee (and might end up leading to more problems than it solves).

Apologies for the 'many looks, but no posts' as of late; been fighting a bug  - not *that* bug, thankfully - but still feeling like someone's hit me with the front grille of an Escalade more than once. :(

Most of it is muscular aches and a bit of fever, but I've only tested positive for a cold, not what's making the rounds lately. I'll probably be off recovering the next few days and spending most of it in bed. Since there's not much to go aboard the ship and even less places to go where we've landed, Dominiq will likely be studying ... something along with singing to keep her voice limber. (You never know when it might come in handy).

Have fun, everyone. I'll be other here, working on getting healthier.

Alwin, Dominique, Einar, Heather, Horace & Reginal: The Albatros, currently in Merlin. Not next destination at the moment.

Not sure how many actives we got left. And if you guys dont have a captain we got a journalist npc leading us so that might help with keeping the story moving as i saw that was something you guys had issues with. But its all about what the gm and the rest want of coarse. I am all new to this game and still learning the whole deal.

The two ships merging at this point doesn't really make sense. It might have been possible in St Brendan, but not anymore.

As for the Nellie, Florence will soon come on board, so that'll be at least 2 active, plus Abe when his situation stabilizes.

Because the Nellie Blye has a whole plot line taking it in the other direction, it would make no sense.

Three per ship is not too bad anyway, plus, the play style of the two ships are different so it wouldn't necessarily be a good idea to merge the two even if it were possible.

If the game gets so slow people drop out because of that story arguments hold no ground. My suggestion was also to skip a bit of story so whatever we are doing seperatly has no impact on whats next. Hell i can see our team joining as a media crew on whatever you are doing and *poof*  a reason to merge thats not even to far out.

Beyond that it was a suggestion to get a core group of players that seem to stick around together so the game as a whole advances. I know that i have the tendency to loose interest when a game gets to slow and well lonesome me is going really slow at this moment and thats a waste.

The Nellie Bly is making a run to, by way of several worlds including Calderada, which will take about 8-9 weeks.  We're kind of telescoping that time, which is why you have a set number of questions you can look into along the way.

The airbags in my car failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to lock so I hit my head on the steering wheel, possibly twice (the details are fuzzy). I ended up with a concussion, a contusion on the left side of my forehead which also developed, rather quickly, into a peri-orbital traumatic hematoma which crossed the mid-line before I even made it to A&E so I ended up with bruises around both eyes (raccoon eyes).

I also sustained a cervical to lumbar strain so essentially whiplash to my entire back. Both knees hit the dash which caused bilateral hematomas and finally there were contusions, strains, and diffuse pain.

My car was utterly totaled. The bonnet and boot were crushed to about half their normal size.

I'm still dealing with post-concussion syndrome so not quite up to creative writing yet. Hopefully soon.

Re: Horace and Patrons

Thank you all. I'm still dealing with chronic headaches, vertigo, and back pain but I am on the mend. It was bloody strange being on the other side of things given what I do for a living. Not an experience I care to repeat.

Thank you, Horace. Recovery has been slower than I would like - mentally and physically. It's progressing but slowly.

Re: Horace and Patrons

I have had a very difficult last few months.  So many things managed to converge at once to create extreme stress, leaving me very little time.
Writing became very draining.  Normally it’s relaxing.  So I had to take a break.

Hopefully, I will manage to get things back together.

Re: Horace and Patrons

I am hoping our GM is doing well. I am hoping this game can restart when the GM is ready. If this game doesn't restart for whatever reason I wish all those stalwarts who have played this game with me happiness in gaming and in RL.
