Interesting mix so far! Lots of magical potential. I can foresee at least one additional member likely coming our way in the form of some sort of divine class. Else we might be chugging more than a few healing potions for awhile. Heh.

I could multiclass into Mind domain cleric from Exploring Eberron, wouldn't be a problem at all honestly. Might redirect going bard a little but whatever

I wouldn't panic too quickly. There may still be more players incoming. I know the GM mentioned there were over 20 submissions (and that was as of a few days ago), so who knows how many we're up to at this point. Possible another one or two might slip in! But as you say, multiclassing is always a possibility (for any of us).

Initial game ad said 5, but you're right, we all know that anyone running a game on this site is lucky to end up with ONLY the number they intended

Currently I think we're at max.  Atleast for my skill level.  Let's see how we all do together through the first few scenarios and if we all see to be on the same page to add more to the story, it isn't out of the question.

Also, sorry for not responding today, I was at work open>close (I manage a restaurant and one of my cooks called in).

I have updated Character Creation Thread.

I didn't, but I've just made one now. So we just make our characters there, and what, post a link to the character sheet here?

Also, how are we doing our stats, roll, pointbuy or standard array?

EDIT: Spot of trouble here. I've only got access to the basics on dnd beyond right now, and can't afford anything more. So I don't have access to the shifter race. or they archfey patron for that matter :(

Using beyond without all the options is a bit problematic for me.
Could I perhaps just fill out a manual character sheet, and post it here under my character details. There should be the option for a character sheet there that you as the GM can unlock for your players.

If you don't have a D&D Beyond account then please upload your character sheet to your character info.  That will work fine.

As for stat generation, I'm partial to the 4D6 (drop lowest) option as I love the randomness of the dice, but would also agree to Standard array.

Do we have a consensus on which you all prefer? for Stats that is.

I'd Day Rolling stats, since I find that more fin as well. Though Perhaps allowing us to roll a second line of stats if the first one bombs would be Wise? As I said, I love the randomness of Rolling stats, even if some are less than ideal. But there's getting a mixed bag of stats, and then there's Rolling abysmally bad.

Oh, and as I mentioned, there's the option for us to put our sheets in a box on our individual character details pages, but you have to unlock it for us.

If ya'll can't tell I don't run a lot of games on RPOL so I'm a bit new to the functionality.  In a D&D game I play in the GM showed me the "Languages" function and it blew my mind.

If atleast half your stats are single digit then please roll another set.  We are not playing random commoners here, but great adventurers who are going to get into a bang load more trouble.  LoL

If someone has a sheet template we can all use I would be glad to upload it for you all.

I have now enabled them to be editable by players (I believe).


Also, for those of you who have a D&D Beyond, I have added the campaign link into the character creation post.

I would highly recommend everyone create a free account and check the website out if you haven't in the past.  I'm a big fan of it, and can't wait to see some of the changes 6/1 when WOTC takes over.

Rolls are fun, random. I vote for it

The character sheet is still not open for me to edit, at least. In the help section it says how it works.
You just go to Help->Games->Playing a character->Character Details.

I would just post the template itself, but it's pretty long.

I have D&D beyond and I have all the books (my gaming group bought the legendary bundle for me for my birthday when I was GMing and I've been trying to keep up with the books since there) so I think once I join the campaign you'd all have access to everything (if our DM doesn't already). If content sharing is on, in the campaign that is.

So if you create a free account and then join the campaign, it should open up a lot for you.

lol. I have a love/hate relationship with online dice rolling (sometimes I wonder why I play in online games lol), but I'm fine with rolling for stats if that's the consensus.

Oh hey, nice. I've got access to all the class and race things on Beyond now. Content sharing is a really nice feature :)

With that fixed, I'm completely down for doing this on beyond instead.

Oh, do you want us to roll our stats on the rpol dice roller, or on Beyond? Dunno about the one on Beyond, but here you can at least see our dice rolls, for transparency.

Think I have most of my character set up now (on D&D Beyond). I used the rolling ability on D&D Beyond (4d6 and it dropped one) and kept the first rolls. Not sure if we should do a reroll on any of them, so left it at the first round only.

Only thing really remaining (I think) would be in terms of starting money/equipment purchase. If we should go with the standard, roll it, max starting, etc.

@ Bastion:  Where did you get that wonderful picture of your warforged?  It looks like it belongs in Destiny (The Videogame)

At this point your characters have all their basic necessities taken care of by the guild, but it also means they are Broke.

Everyone gets Starting equipment, not gold.  But not to worry you won't be broke for long.  :)

Oh, the picture in the description? I...don't remember. I fall down rabbit holes looking for character pictures sometime and save them for later (sometimes, I get really off-track, especially when I hit Pinterest lol). I have like...20 Warforged pictures of various types, for instance. This one specifically I found and it lead me to wanting the common magic item I told you about, for more fun RP. =)

Alrighty, my character's done, far as I can tell. I just went with the Beyond dice roller, since that seems like what people're doing.

Same; just added in the starting equipment (basics) so that should be everything for him.

Yeah, you had had to submit them and it took like a month or two to show up, but I *think* they stopped allowing submissions at some point. Not sure if they allow again or not.

Oh yeah, you could submit pictures once. Didn't think about mentioning that part. Saw how long it would take, and erased it from my mind, since it wasn't ever relevant to me...

I don't know when I'll get the character fully finalized, but I'll be playing a male Talenta Halfling Ranger with the Mark of Healing. Not quite as useful as a Cleric, I suppose, but I come with a dinosaur, so ...

OK, some major changes to the character, but I think I have a much more fully-realized and developed character rather than some numbers on a sheet. I also think the Druid class fits both the character and the campaign much better.

He's all GM approved and ready to go. I'll get a backstory up over the next few days, but for now I'm headed over to read and post in the IC so I can officially get introduced.

Wednesdays I have company most all day and evening, so I may not get posts up tomorrow, but I'll be back at work and able to post Thurs - Sat.

Boy Far Traveler background is interesting in Eberron. Not a lot of options within Khorvaire to use it, but I'd imagine Ghaash'kala or Hammerfist dwarves, Cold Sun Federation lizardfolk, mountain kobolds or Jhorash’tar orcs would be suitable alongside people from WAY deep in the Eldeen Reaches and Shadow Marches

While the original, more thrill-seeking version of Matl (appropriately called Yolo) would've very willingly plunged off the bridge for sport, I think Matl might have far more objections - not from cowardice, but from the fact that this is a pretty non-sensical thing to do, from his perspective, at least.

What're the ramifications for refusing to play?

Once we figure out your obstacle there is usually an additional challenge to avoid and the wis check.  Those can both be rolled in same post.

I agree with this.  Personally I would've called for a CHA check, as IMHO force of will is typically shown with CHA rolls.  But I digress.

Just from curiosity, we're going through Tumbledown and at about 12-18 (18 seconds is just short of a mile in free fall, which we're not jumping from the highest point of Sharn even at the mile high point) seconds ending up in Malleon's Gate, is that accurate to how this fall's going? We end up in the goblin district? Or is the fall moving laterally as well?

Honestly it's something I hadn't given much thought with this little encounter.  Though ending up in the gobbo district sounds fun.

What're your thoughts on it?  Anyone else have any thoughts?

That's just the districts that are directly in a line vertically, makes an interesting little jump but basically you're in the slums either way at the bottom if you deviate (Old Keep or Gold Gate) or just in one of the fissures that lead down into the undercity

This ignores that the entire city basically is in an air planar zone and we could be buffeted sideways for hundreds of feet OR the ideal that we just do what's best for the story

Bleh. lol

Man, I am being pretty darn lucky with my rolls so far.

If tradition holds, then, it'll be nothing but borked rolls for me from now on. especially on important rolls. It's rarely a good sign when I'm this lucky right from the start. :P

Though getting to the end would have suited too (being someone with experience in the city) I'm pretty good with the story the dice told for Beren

Having been through this scenario of the DMs before, yes, we all should be able to reach the commotion area fairly quickly and easily.

She is one level above you, (1 story), there is an elevator very close to your landing spot that will take you to the commotion.

Also, I'm not 100% sure on whether everyone understands the significance of an Abberant Dragonmarked.  If you would like more info on them let me know and I can provide some resources.

Morning everyone (It's 525am atm) I know how much of an inconvenience this post will be to everyone so please allow me to apologize up front.

(tl;dr) Please copy your character sheet from D&DBeyond to RPOL.

So, for the past year I've been sharing an DDB account with a dear friend of mine.  It was a mutually beneficial account due to the fact that he had purchased most of the books on there (whereas I have not yet), but he didn't have the funds to upkeep the monthly subscription.  I on the other hand could upkeep the subscription which I did gladly for him, for access to his account.  Well, my browser on my computer went and updated itself and logged me out of our account in chrome.  Last time this happened it took weeks to get me logged back in as he is not super computer savvy, and doesn't come to my house often.

So I am asking everyone to please move your character sheets into RPOL for the interim as I attempt to fix this minor blip in my operations.

I wrote my sheet into DDB transcribed FROM a word file, so putting it on RPOL is no problem at all

Thank you all for your kindness and patience, It's been years (plural) since I've run a game in RPOL, and this is my first D&D 5e adventure so there's bound to be some bumps and bruises along the way.  I'm really excited to take you all on this adventure, even though Matl has been through the first scenario, he has no idea what comes afterward, and reading through all my notes and such I am really excited to see the story we all get to tell.

Howdy all.  Your friendly neighborhood GM here.  So we've been playing for about a month now and I wanted to gauge the temperature of the room.

As for the game, I'm lining it so far. Pacings been largely steady, IMO, so I've got No gripes as of yet.

As for the game's pace, going fine for me here; particularly with the number of players we have! Looking forward to seeing how it goes from here too.

The game is very good so far, well handled and well-paced. Both slow enough to allow interaction and fast enough to avoid boredom.

TBH I haven't started using Eberron as a setting until the last 6-8 months.  I love the "Wide-Magic" aspect and how magic replaces technology but is aesthetically similar to steampunk.

So I feel my greatest opportunity to get better is with the Lore and setting knowledge that there is.  I'm really hoping this game will help build my skillset as a GM so I can start running local games and maybe even online Paid GM type games.  So all of your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Finally, things are going well on my end. I'm mildly familiar with Eberron. I've got the book, and no some of the "surface" lore, but not much deeper.

It's a very rewarding setting to learn about, but the main thing is to understand the themes rather than the aesthetic. People see "alignment is mutable" and "sort of robots" and trains and airships and they think they know the setting but I'd argue the main point that makes it different from Faerun and Greyhawk is that Eberron NEEDS heroes. You are it. Flawed, venal though you may be, you're what Eberron needs because evil is here and it is merciless.

Yeah, Eberron has always Been really fascinating to med, every snippet of lore being cool and/or interesting.

I've read Up in the settings several times over the years, but never manager to be in a game in the settings that lasted Long. Then with a few years going between each attempt, my memory in gets spotty at best.

Honestly whatever "weird" or "wrong" stuff you say I just chalk up to being "right" in your personal case. Your shifter's past and understandings of the world don't necessarily jive with the setting proper . . . and considering once you get west of the Mosswood some of the shifters and druidic sects there haven't seen the outside world in 200+ years (or that you traverse "ancient" pathways through planar zones), I simply take it at your word you've done these things

Yeah, I've basically been going with Riverbluff's knowledge being just as spotty as mine, on account of having spent his life in a fairly isolationist nomadic tribe. He knows the Eldeen reaches, and some other places he's travelled. Along with some time spent in Thelanis after accidentally walking through a faerie ring once.

Basically all he knows comes from personal experience, so it's both spotty and coloured by his limited understanding of the world. :P

I might take you up on the links thing later on though. For now I might just start with checking Baker's blogs, since that seems to be a good lore source?

Hey all. So, I've been thinking about this for a while and it's been a tough decision to reach, but I think I'm going to have to drop out of the game. I just simply don't have the time to fully (or even partly) dedicate to RPOL like I used to. Work has been considerably busier, when I'm on break or lunch I do things away from my desk, and when I'm off work (I work a 10 hour day), I don't want to spend any more time at my computer, and on my days off, I just tend to be super busy or otherwise distracted by other things.

You all have been great fun to roleplay with all of you (even though I didn't participate too frequently).

I know the GM personally, and can assure you that if you continue to be patient w/ his work/family demands, he'll reward you with a great gaming experience.

Allright, so I had spoken to 2 players, and even though both made characters one seems to have gone MIA.  I was hoping to hear from them today to get both new players introduced.... but that doesn't seem the case.

I will be at work all day (7a-10p) tomorrow, I'll get Runeseeker introduced Monday.

No problem, weekends tend to be busy for me as well.

Once we get Runeseeker's character introduced to the group, I don't think we'll add anymore atleast until this little adventure is completed.  It seems to just slow things down a ton.  I was originally against the idea as I didn't want to heavily modify my encounters, but que cera cera.

There's warforged with two heads canonically, and the truly big 'forged (called warforged chargers if we're still ettin sized) are around somewhere. Stands to reason some enterprising artificer or Cannith heir got themselves an "ettin-forged charger", what good that'd do them (wouldn't have the ettin's twin brains . . . at least, by normal creation forge methods)

As to Persuasion, A) I have a -1, and B) Beren's not the negotiating type when it comes to Daask. All Bastion's go if he'd like to, but seems we're light on Persuasion (seems Erisa just has her natural charisma, unless she's a sorcerer with a 10 Charisma, going by rolls), as I am in fact Deception proficient

If it makes you all feel any better, I am also in the +1 Persuasion crowd. No idea how a minotaur got this charismatic, but also I'm a minotaur with am 8 Strength so all bets are off. I imagine Oeslo looks like a water buffalo, flappy skin and leaner.

I think it's pretty okay, rogue, fighter, sorcerer and artificer. If we get a cleric might be cool but that's about it

Had covid a while ago. Had all my shots so it wasn't so bad but 0/10 wouldn't recommend.

As to a cleric I'm planning on maybe dipping mind cleric if need be, but it's mostly just for a few healing spells and such not a long and fruitful focus on being a cleric

Basically Common Items that you'd find listed in PHB, as their price states in the PHB.  Magic Items with a lvl 1-lvl2 spell on them things like that.

     I received some pretty disheartening news today.  After my months of preparation I failed my Hot Air Balloon Pilot test.  I have 30 days-ish to prepare to take it again.

I'm pretty humbled by this.

I need to re-double my study efforts, and instead of attempting to push myself to multitask GMing this game, work, family, study, I'm putting it on hold.

Just until I can get my pilot's license.

I know you are all excited to play, and I'm sorry about this, but I feel announcing this is better than keeping yall in suspense, checking daily waiting for me to post, when it just doesn't happen.

I will check in every few days to keep the threads active, but that's all.

I started the game way back when as an Artificer with Bastion. I have since played an Artificer and read them more and found them...lacking. They have some of the lore from the 3.5 version but the 5e version is just not the same, not that close. Don't get me wrong, it works for Bastion and I can playing him that way if we need it. I'm easy on what I play honestly.

You could always play Bastion as a Forge Domain Cleric.

That IS one of the ideas on the table.

...though I WILL say my highest stat is a 14 so it's not like any spells will be hard to resist no matter what Class, haha!

my first concept was a artificer alchemist, but when i saw you were one, i steered away from that and went the warlock.

...which i don't mind - never really played one to full potential yet (the few games i applied, all died!)

Up to you. After some consideration, if I'm keeping Bastion, I'm going to try out Artificer still. I haven't played one past Level 3. And reworking him feels...wrong.

But I could make something else easily, if you want to play an Artificer.

Oh, and she will be younger, cheekier and a little more reckless than the warlock version.

GM - no problem at all....as i said at the start, i am flexible, and it's the journey and story we make, not what we are. Later i may multiclass to a warlock (maybe undead or something), but we shall see how she shapes up

So question for you all.  How many games are you simultaneously in/running?

......a lot.

I run 3 (Two 5e, one 3.5), and i'm in quite a few. Most are with the same group of people with someone else GMing (so between the group of 5 of us, thats another 6 games). Plus i'm in about 5 more (with two just recently dying)

......I'm in over 20 games just on rpol here (though several are either VERY slow like almost on hiatus often, or might die at any time). Then 2 twice-a-month in-person/virtual games with people I game with in real life, another on hiatus where we used to all live near each other but some have moved away.

I've been lucky with some, however. I managed to play through an entire Pathfinder Adventure Path in one game (I think I was the last original member though). I'm in a Deadlands Hell on Earth game that I joined back in...2010?...that's still going. A Princes of the Apocalypse 5E game I joined back in 2016 that's still going. I had one I joined that 'died' for a long time but recently came back, which is surprising!

But yeah...a lot of games don't last, some are VERY short, which is disheartening.

The most characters I've simultaneously have played is around 31 though I would not recommend it for peple with an actual life XD! I've got it down to a much more manageable 10 currently. 6 of those on rpol and 4 in various games I'm playing with friends.
Its amazing how quickly one can get lost in role playing when dealing with an abusive job though!

Yea see that’s why I asked.  This is my only roll game.  My local game meets every 2 weeks and even less w holidays coming up.  I spend about 60-70 hours at work right in the middle of the day.  So gaming is damn near impossible. I had hoped to find an RPG light dungeon crawl on rpol but no luck so far.

I don't have any games that are open right now that would be D&D or anything, but I'll keep an eye out for you.

This is one of the 6 games I'm participating in now.

I'm wondering if I should just maybe start another game.  I purchased the Keys to the golden vault book, and have all of the Across Eberron series.

I really enjoy running modules, and playing in them.

Currently I'm going through BG3 and it's so massive I'm still on my first playthrough and sitting at over (Edit) 165.3 hours.  Though I did play through Act 4 like 4 times in beta.

I'm currently playing in a Golden Keys game in my 2x/month group so I'd be out if you did that, but it seems like it's fun.

How's it going so far with that one?  I've run 2-3 adventures from the book for my local group just incorporating them into our current campaign (Think Eberron /Arcane Mashup) and they are very fun so far.

Well, lol, our group is always kind of...well, not-great-luck, things going sideways, and too often the wrong people for a situation (like the worst Charisma character ending up having to talk their way past someone, etc), so it's always interesting at least, but we've only made it through the first heist thus far so I can't say too much yet.

Oh man!  that's a bummer.  Our first adventure with the Stone, I worked with the party and split them into two groups, one who went in before the museum closed during the party, and those who went in after it closed.  They worked simultaneously, and as one part succeeded in something for the benefit of the party, the whole party got the benefit.

For example, the Post close group couldn't unlock doors or windows, couldn't lockpick for shit, and didn't have a knock spell, so the Pre-close group secreted away and once they found security key cards, I told the post-group that they forgot about the key cards they had been given before entering but managed to find a forgotten one in their pocket.  It was really fun for everyone as the Pre-close group got into a security scuffle but didn't have their heavy hitter, and had to survive/escape before dying as they couldn't best the guard in combat.

They succeeded in their endeavor and managed to get a bonus to any interaction to any occult gangs moving forward.

My character almost got caught because one of our group (he usually is the GM and he tries to do everything when he's a player) got greedy and wanted to get magic items they saw earlier with a Detect Magic on the 'scouting' we did. But we made it without a fight and stopped  the 'bad ending' from happening, lol.

The second adventure should be a doozie for ya!  Gave me Oceans 12 vibes all day.
I also love heist movies.  the Italian Job with Mark Whalberg is probably one of my favorites.

Currently only common magical items are available.  The Bag of Holding is uncommon, and Haversack is listed as rare.

Alright, noted. Then getting an Everbright Lantern should be acceptable as it is a common, item. Dakarian is a little wary of burning oils.

Everbright lanterns are very common in Eberron.  Don't forget your 5% discount.

I started watching Blue eye Samurai on Netflix.  Man it is AWESOME!

Reminds me of my days playing L5R. Legend of the 5 Rings.

L5R was great (though I haven't played for a few editions).

I enjoyed watch Blue Eyed Sanurai, I hope there is a second season! I especially enjoyed that the story was tied into a real world event.

Dakarian - just be aware that Artificers get very few spells per day and hardly any spell levels in comparison to Clerics, lol. But I'll help when I can. =)

Alright, my character was only looking for healing options to prepare for the (hopefully) very rare occasions where he could not provide healing himself, which is why he gave everyone else a healing potion.

Also, at this point I will assume (until told otherwise) all the other characters have one healing potion, and a Feather Token.

So far, Bastion has custody of the Sunrise Sapphire amulet.
But the map doesn't have an owner/caretaker, unless someone wishes to claim it. Given her family background and her own admission of being a writer, Dakarian would put it in Cassia's hands.
